When an owner can become a pail of the procedure to help their animal. Having a visual presentation speedily can help reduce
client anxiety. Being able to magnify an area of concern, or being able to show a reverse polarity view of an injury or other pathology to a concerned owner is a very good way to ensure understanding. These techniques are not readily available with film and owners frequently do not see or understand the complexities of a radiographic diagnosis that to them many or many not look abnormal. The miracle of electronic contrast change can help an owner see what we know is there, but is vague to the inexperienced eye.

Clients are impressed by an immediate consultation
The gamma range of digital radiography provides for better interpretation by allowing for a wider range of light to dark contrasts on the same exposure. This is especially useful in visualizing problems in a thorax for instance when the initial technique might have been for a more dense tissue such as bone. Frequently film requires an additional radiographic exposure to see this type of range. Clients are impressed when an image appears on the screen of the exam room computer. They are also impressed by an immediate consultation rather than having to wait for telephone call by the doctor later on.

LESS EXPOSURE TIME TO THE PATIENT AND FEWER REPEAT STUDIES

Everything we had anticipated and more!
The three doctors in our office thoroughly researched the different digital x-ray systems currently available; direct digital & cassette based. We then concentrated on the direct digital system primarily due to speed at which radiographs could be visualized. Although the NAOMI system had to be shipped from Japan and was relatively untested in the United States, it proven to be everything we had anticipated and more. Images are clear, sharp and available immediately. Support has been fantastic.

Most interesting things
Since the new system was installed, one of the most interesting things that came to our attention is that patients have taken notice of the new small flat screen monitors in each treatment room. Once we have explained that we have installed a new digital x-ray unit, the request for updated films or films in general has increased approximately 300%. We have found that many patients are aware that many dental offices and the major hospitals also have computerized digital x-rays. I believe many of them were surprised a chiropractic office could afford to have this new technology.

We no longer purchase film, chemical
The difference between film-based x-ray and digital radiographic are many, all favoring digital radiography. We no longer purchase film, chemical, the dark room is now used for storage, the processor has been long since bought by another office, filing films has been eliminated thus saving time, no silver salvage people come to our door and we are using the digital radiography as a marketing tool.

Patients love the new system
We have installed small flat screens in each of the treatment rooms which allow the patients to view their radiographs themselves and with our help, be able to enhance certain areas of degeneration and spur formation. We have found this to be invaluable in explaining why certain symptoms are linked to bio-mechanical problems within the spice.
